It’s that time of year again when the weather starts to turn and we start to think about our wardrobes. One question we always get at this time of year is “will snow ruin my leather jacket?”
There’s no simple answer to this question as it depends on a few factors, but we’ll try to give you some guidance.
Firstly, it’s important to remember that leather is a natural material and as such, it is affected by the elements. Leather is porous, so if it gets wet, it will absorb moisture. This can cause the leather to swell and change shape, which can ruin the fit of your jacket.
If you do get caught in the rain or snow, we recommend that you wipe down your jacket as soon as possible with a clean, dry cloth. This will help to remove any moisture from the surface of the leather.
If your leather jacket does get wet, it’s important to let it dry naturally. Do not use a hairdryer or any other form of direct heat as this could damage the leather.
Once your jacket is dry, you can use a leather conditioner to help restore its natural oils and keep it supple.
In general, we would advise against wearing your leather jacket in the snow. However, if you do choose to do so, we recommend that you take extra care to protect it from the elements.
